Nancy Myron is a bilingual Ottawa-based painter in watercolour whose evocative work aims to capture for her viewer's leisure "a special place, moment or feeling that might otherwise be overlooked." Her watercolours often portray local vistas and favourite public and private gardens, as well as out of the way spots, imagined places, and still life (with a twist), often celebrating the changing light and seasons in our very northern climate.
Nancy has studied since childhood with noted American and Canadian artists. She presently gives classes and workshops in Ottawa to satisfy the needs and convenience of her students. The common thread that runs through Nancy's teaching is removing students' natural (or learned) fears and frustrations, so that each person's creativity can come to light. At the same time she teaches (painlessly) both time honoured and experimental watercolour techniques so that each student can choose the vocabulary that suites what they want to "say." Nancy's classes are popular because they are both fun and productive with a warm atmosphere of sharing among the students. Nancy is a long-time Fellow of the Ottawa Watercolour Society, and shows her work frequently in the Society's juried shows, as well as often serving on various juries. Nancy is a past Vice President of the society. She has been honoured with the Morton Baslaw award and the Nepean Fine Arts League of Excellence. Nancy's works have been on display at a number of prestigious locations including: the Faculty Club at the University of Ottawa, Ottawa City Hall, and by Member's request at the Offices of the Parliament of Canada. They are currently displayed at the official residence of the Canadian High Commissioner to Great Britain in London, England, where visiting senior National Gallery (of Canada) officials have accorded it high praise. She is proud to be a part of such permanent collections as Algonquin College, the Ottawa General Hospital, the Ottawa Public Library, The Alliance Francaise, and many prestigious corporate collections. |
